Career Council

Sponsored by the Career Development Center and Caltech Alumni Association.

The Career Council functions as a communication hub for student/postdoc organizations, as well as a direct line of communication for companies, alumni, and faculty members.

  • Discuss ideas that may benefit your organization’s objectives
  • Explore co-sponsoring some programs and events in order to increase student, faculty, and industry participation
  • Partner with faculty, alumni, and industry representatives on projects and programs
  • Increase helpful contacts and networks
  • Collaborate with the CDC and CAA staff and resources to add consistency to student groups from year to year
  • Work with the CDC to better assess the career needs of the ever-changing student and postdoc populations, aiming to create and improve programs to better serve the Caltech community

The Career Council is comprised of student/postdoc leaders of various professional organizations on campus. These representatives, or Career Ambassadors, serve for the full academic year. The Career Council meets annually, usually at the beginning of the academic year, and on an as-need basis. CDC career counselors serve as ex-officios for individual groups, advising them on career-related events and programs.

If you are a professional student organization or a company, and are interested in learning more about the Career Council and ways to participate, please contact the Caltech Career Center at career@caltech.edu or (626) 395-6361.

Theyahoo Fund

Generously donated by Yahoo!, the Yahoo! Fund promotes the design and implementation of innovative and creative events and programs that expose and educate the Caltech community on professional development topics. The Yahoo! Fund is specifically for the student organizations of the Caltech Career Council. If approved, the Yahoo! Fund will provide up to $300 depending on the organization’s needs and the type of event. Because there is a limited amount in the Yahoo! Fund, this program is only available until August 2008, or when the funds are exhausted.

To apply for the Yahoo! Fund, please download the application. Email the completed form to Yvonne Banzali (ybanzali@caltech.edu) at least 2-3 weeks prior to the event.
