Individual Assistance
Angela Wood is Caltech's designated pre-med and pre-health advisor. She is available to help you develop an individualized plan to achieve your personal professional and academic goals. Together with you, Angela will discuss the decision making process and career options.
Students who wish to begin medical school immediately after receiving a bachelor's degree need to begin their preparation early, as soon as Fall Term of their freshman year. Most Caltech graduates who have gone on to medical school have been in biology, however, at least one graduate in each division has also been successful. While there is no magical formula which will ensure admission to your first choice of school and program, there is a general profile of successful applicants to MD programs.
For MD/Ph.D. programs, all of the same criteria apply, plus students need to have significant research experience.
