Huntington Memorial Hospital
At the Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, Dr. William
Caton III, the Chairman of Neurosurgery, offers a unique clinical experience
to students who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine.
Each summer, up to 12 Caltech premed students enroll in an intensive
six-week rotation program during which the students have the opportunity
to experience various medical practices such as neurosurgery,
emergency medicine, pediatrics, pathology, cardiology, and radiology.
Each participant documents over 200 hours of clinical experience each
summer through this program. This program is not open to freshmen.

Childrens Hospital Los Angeles
Caltech also partners with the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, for three
weeks each summer, to provide individualized clinical and research opportunities
for each premed student who wishes to participate in pediatric
care. Up to 12 students are accepted. Each student is matched with mentors depending on his or her
interest. Medical specialties include: immunology, cardiology, oncology,
emergency medicine, general surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery,
general pediatrics, prenatal and pediatric intensive care.

City of
Hope
Within a short distance from the Caltech campus,
up to 6 Caltech students will do 4 weeks of clinical rotations and six weeks of research (optional) at the City of
Hope, a leading cancer research and care institute.
Duration: June thru August
UCLA Medical Center
For 14 days each summer, the Undergraduate Preceptorship in Internal Medicine program offers Caltech students the opportunity to experience patient care first hand at UCLA Medical Center. The students become members of the medical teams in the hospital; closely shadowing attending physicians and residents, attending medical teaching conferences and participating in meetings with patients and family members. Participants are selected through an application and interview process. Open to 3 - 4 undergraduate students.
